Bio

Gabriel Ebert is one of New York’s most dynamic and versatile actors. A native of Colorado, he is a 2009 graduate of The Juilliard School. Defying type and category with an expansive range, Ebert straddles genres and mediums, bringing his singular talent and his ability to collaborate to every project.

Most recently, Ebert was seen as the villain in season three of Mr. Mercedes opposite Brendan Gleeson and Kate Mulgrew. Other television appearances include series regular roles in Compliance (FX) and The Interestings (Amazon), a recurring role in The Mandalorian and a guest star role in The Good Fight. Films include Ricki and the Flash opposite Meryl Streep, Jason Bateman’s The Family Fang, and George C. Wolfe’s The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.

But the bulk of Gabe’s work has been on stage. On Broadway, Ebert originated the role of ‘Mr. Wormwood’ in Matilda the Musical, a performance for which he won the Tony Award. Other outings include Therese Raquin opposite Keira Knightly, Harvey Fierstein’s Casa Valentina and Noel Coward’s Brief Encounter.

Off Broadway, Ebert originated the iconic role of Leo in Amy Herzog’s Pulitzer Prize Finalist 4,000 Miles (Obie Award) and the role of Mister/Ossifer in Antoinette Nwandu’s searing play Pass Over (Lucille Lortel Award.) Other appearances include John Doyle’s Peer Gynt (Classic Stage Company,) Dave Malloy/Rachel Chavkin’s Preludes, Prometheus Bound opposite Uzo Aduba, and a site-specific production of Chekhov’s The Seagull which culminated in the cinematic adaptation I am a Seagull.

An accomplished vocalist, songwriter and musician, Ebert has performed at Carnegie Hall, London’s Royal Albert Hall and as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic. He plays many instruments, including piano, guitar, ukulele, harmonica, and bass, and is working on a solo album, Come on Men, as well as the anti-facist musical, This Machine Kills Fascists.
