Cecilia Suárez
Bio
Born in Tampico, México, Cecilia Suárez is an Ariel Award winner and Emmy International-nominated actress. She started her acting career at Illinois State University in 1991, and received the Jean Sharfenberg Award after graduating as class valedictorian in 1995. She was a grantee of Chicago's Steppenwolf Theater Company, where she had featured roles in The Crucible and Everyman. She also received the National Critics Award in Mexico for Best Comedy Actress for her performance as Scout in Popcorn.
In 1999, she made her film debut in Sexo, Pudor y Lágrimas by Antonio Serrano, followed by roles in Todo el Poder, Fidel, Sin Ton ni Sonia, Punos Rosas, Solo Dios Sabe, Chicken Little, Spanglish, Los Tres Entierros de Melquiades Estrada, The Air I Breathe, Parpados Azules, El Viaje de la Nonna and Cinco Dias sin Nora. In 2008, Suárez was nominated for a Best Actress Ariel Award by the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences for her role in Parpados Azules. In 2018, she became the first woman to receive the Premio Cuervo Tradicional, Mexico's lifetime achievement award in film and television.
In July 2020, Suárez was designated a UN Global Advocate for the Spotlight Initiative, with a particular focus on ending femicide in Latin America.
