Bio

Alexandra Gersten-Vassilaros is the author of  the new play, MEAN TIME, recently workshopped at the Vineyard Theatre and directed by Daniel Aukin.  For her work on her controversial play, The Argument, (w/ Melissa Leo) which premiered at the Vineyard Theatre in 2005, she was invited to join PEN.  Omnium Gatherum,  2004 finalist, Pulitzer Prize for Dramaco-written with T. Rebeck, premiered at 2003 Humana Festival, Off-Broadway, as well as countless regional and international productions,  published in Best Plays of 2004. Three of her full length plays were commissioned and premiered at Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago. Mother of Invention (Steppenwolf Theatre Co, dir. Anna Shapiro, Williamstown Theatre Festival, w/ Estelle Parsons, dir. Nicholas Martin) My Thing of Love  (Broadway w/ Laurie Metcalf, Steppenwolf Theatre Co, Jefferson Award, dir. Terry Kinney) Supple in Combat ( w John Mahoney, Steppenwolf Theatre Co. dir. Max Mayer) I Never told Anyone (A short play, commissioned by the McCarter Theatre, dir. BD Wong), The Airport Play, one-act, EST Marathon ’05, TELEVISION: Ms. Vassilaros is currently developing a new half hour comedy for HBO with co-writer Carl Capotorto with Executive Producers, Will Scheffer and Mark Olsen (“Big Love”) She is a graduate of the NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and a member of The Actors Studio. Her work is published by Samuel French and Smith and Kraus. She is currently working on a film script for director Gavin O’Connor (Miracle, Tumbleweeds).
