Emma Goldman-Sherman

Emma Goldman-Sherman has had plays produced in theatres around the country (including Golden Thread; Dixon Place; New Ohio; Manhattan Theatre Source; New Georges; Culture Project; Greenbriar Valley; Clemente; Capital Fringe; Theatre Conspiracy and EST/LA) and in the UK, Europe, Canada, and Australia. Her work includes Perfect Women (Jane Chambers Award) and ZEN & the Art of Mourning a Mother (finalist, Bechdel Festival at the Bridge Initiative). Hare Today was included in The Every 28 Hours Plays, a response to Ferguson seen across the country. Emma is a 3 time finalist for Risk Is This at Cutting Ball with why birds fly, Abraham's Daughters, and Whorticulture.

She earned an MFA from the University of Iowa where she was awarded the Richard Maibaum Award for plays addressing social justice. Residencies include the Millay Colony for the Arts, Ragdale and WordBRIDGE where she also worked as a dramaturg. She has taught spoken word, poetry and playwriting to at-risk teens at the Andrew Glover Youth Program on the Lower East Side and in East Harlem. Taught and worked as a dramaturg at the Great Plains Theatre Conference and New York Writers Workshop. Her poetry and plays have been published in various anthologies including the 2016, 2018 and 2019 volumes of the Smith & Kraus Best Stage Monologues for Women. She is currently the Resident Dramaturg for the 29th Street Playwrights Collective where she runs the WriteNow Workshop. Emma is an alumna of Circle Rep Lab, Women's Project Playwrights Lab and a member of New Circle Theatre Company, League of Professional Theatre Women, Int'l Center for Women Playwrights, and the Dramatists Guild.
